An initiative to construct a Holocaust Memorial in Lyon, France, began in 2019. The project is led by the Association pour l'édification pour un Mémorial de la Shoah à Lyon, with the support of the Région Auvergne-Rhöne-Alpes and the Métropole and the City of Lyon.
The memorial is intended to become a place of remembrance, gathering, and commemoration, honoring those who lost their lives in this crime against humanity.
This two-stage competition is an open call to all architects and designers, who are invited to submit a proposal for a Holocaust Memorial to be built on the Place Carnot in Lyon, France, near the Perrache multimodal transit hub. Stage one requires an initial proposal, from which the jury will select five teams to refine their designs in stage two. Shortlisted teams will receive 5,000 euros (including VAT).
The budget for the project stands at 500,000 euros.
At the conclusion of the design competition, the team of the winning submission will be required to carry out full design, implementation, and overseeing of construction of their design.
